10th October - Camp 659 – Camp 496 (Darby’s Falls)

Cold night last night, but have woken up to a lovely sunny morning.  The Monaro Hwy from Cooma to Canberra is a lovely road with magnificent scenery.  The paddocks are all lush green with dams brimming with water, also lots of poddy calves and baby lambs.  The country looks very healthy.  Have also seen lots of big trees in full white blossom which we are assuming are Crab Apples – they look spectacular.  Stopped at Boorowa for lunch at the rest area, quaint little town.  We then headed to Darby’s falls via a back road through Gunnary, Frogmore & Graham.  More asphalt patches than actual road, but beautiful, so worth every km.  The free camp for tonight is 496 – Darby’s Falls which is on the Lachlan River approx. 25kms east of Cowra.  Tomorrow we will do the tourist bit in and around Cowra, then it is off towards Lightening Ridge. Cowra has a history connected to WW2 Japanese Prisoner of War Camp.
and the most beautiful garden dedicated to the the prisoners.
